Gae Hoffman Savino Selected for National Training Academy: Association of Fund-Raising Professionals "Train-the-Trainers" Program

Gae Hoffman Savino, CFRE, MPA, Partner, Resource Development Counsel (RDC), a fund-raising management and philanthropic mentoring firm based in Westchester County, New York, has been selected by the national office of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) to attend its Faculty Training Academy, February 2002, at the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy. Twenty-five nationally recognized fund-raising professionals were selected to participate in this "train the trainers" program. AFP create the Faculty Training Academy last year for professionals to share their fund-raising, non-profit management and resource development expertise with other fund-raising professionals, university based-faculty and philanthropic leaders throughout the country.

Ms. Savino was selected as an outstanding teaching professional to attend the Academy, based on her leadership, knowledge and experience in professional non-profit management education programs, according to Barbara L. Ciconte, CFRE, AFP Vice Chair for Professional Advancement.

Under Savino's leadership as President of the NJ Chapter of the National Society of Fund-Raising Executives (former name of AFP), the Chapter sponsored the first university-based graduate program in non-profit management and philanthropy at Seton Hall University, which continues today.

AFP Academy graduates are expected to develop and present fund-raising educational programs and demonstrate effective teaching techniques to other instructors. They will also be expected to publish original articles about successful fund-raising techniques, management strategies, ethical issues and economic and demographic trends to advance philanthropy and volunteerism as well as promote AFP's ethical standards of fund-raising practice.

"My 22-year fund-raising career has successfully evolved due to my ongoing education, serving as an advocate, provider and teacher of quality educational programs and mentoring. Participation in the Academy is an important way for me to give back, helping my peers, their board leaders and donors to advance the mission of the organizations where they serve," stated Savino.

Ms. Savino has made commitments in New York, New Jersey and Boston to conduct seminars following her Academy training.

"My career performance and advancement are grounded in AFP's fund-raising principals and methods as well as an understanding of the delicate balance between the art and science of resource development, helping non-profit organizations create productive fund-raising and marketing relationships," stated Savino.

Savino has been an instructor for the AFP professional certification course, the CFRE (Certified Fund-Raising Executive), since the 1980's; has taught resource development at the graduate level for the past ten years at Seton Hall University's Center for Public Service in the Masters in Public Administration (MPA) program; and has taught fund-raising for the Continuing Education Department at Marymount College since 1991.

With her business partner Robert E. Miss, MAC, Savino has designed and presented extensive board development and leadership training programs, facilitated strategic planning retreats, developed integrated fund-raising campaigns, including annual, capital, and major gifts and conducted feasibility studies identifying new funding leadership. "We always strive to create strong relationships among the giving partners," stated Savino.

Throughout her career, Savino has provided fund-raising counsel to universities, secondary schools, hospitals, libraries, children's hospitals, health care agencies, human services, an international child welfare organization, public/private partnerships, historic preservation, environmental organizations and community-based educational foundations.

Savino and her RDC partner have presented numerous philanthropic leadership seminars for non-profit organizations, corporations, public/private and government agencies at regional, national, and international conferences.

The Association of Fundraising professionals is considered to be the premier source for professional development and the authoritative voice of advocacy and training for the fundraising community with 165 chapters, representing 25,193 members.

Resource Development Counsel provides fund-raising management and philanthropic mentoring services to a cross-section of non-profit organizations and corporations throughout the Hudson Valley Region, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
